Kristine Hughes, MA, LMFT, RPT-S™
Hello, beautiful soul. Congratulations on taking a step toward growth and healing. Let me introduce myself.
My name is Kristine. I have 12+ years experience in a variety of settings including day treatment, residential and in-home. I work with all ages and am passionate about providing space for the LGBTQIA+ community. As a queer, cisgender, white female, I am deeply committed to creating an affirming space for all individuals. I view therapy and self-care as acts of resistance that can help those who have been undervalued and silenced cope with the challenges of systemic injustices. I want to create a space where you feel truly valued, heard, and seen.
My experience working with adults include: anxiety, panic, depression, gender identity, grief, self-esteem, self-harming, and stress. Some of my focus areas in working with children and teens includes: anxiety, panic, depression, gender identity, behavioral concerns, foster and adoption, trauma, abuse and neglect.
What therapy looks like with me:
Can you think of a time when someone was “with you”-truly valued you as a person, your whole self? That’s how I show up as a therapist. I bring my authentic, playful, creative self into each session to really help you feel understood and seen.
I believe that the therapy session is a sacred space, and I offer various options for direction based on what you bring to each session. Whether it’s through conversation, art, silence, music, play, movement, or other methods, my goal is to provide you with a therapy experience that is truly unique to you.
In my work with children, I am guided by Garry Landreth’s principles of play therapy. These tenets emphasize the unique nature of children and their capacity for emotional depth, resilience, and growth. I believe that children are not miniature adults, and it’s essential to interact with them in a way that respects their individuality. I also believe that parents are the ultimate experts when it comes to understanding their children. My approach involves working alongside you, recognizing and nurturing your innate parenting abilities while providing additional support and guidance to address any challenges your child and family may be encountering.
